Monte Alban Restaurant in Hiawassee

Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The margarita was horrible, the service was even worse. The food was fair but not worth the money. When all this was mentioned to the man at the cash register he did not care in the least or even try to make amends for their poor quality. We should have just went to the Taco Bell down the street.

The most authentic Mexican Restaurant food, ever. Really good meal. We had the beef burrito and the chicken soup. GET THE CHICKEN SOUP, its amazing.

Deliciously consistent Mexican food! Generous portions and a definite plus that lunch specials are offered on Saturdays until 3PM. This is my family's favorite Mexican restaurant in Hiawassee. Warm and courteous service, even made sure no one ordered anything that would aggravate any food sensitivities. Laid-back and casual atmosphere that welcomes everyone from the person dining alone to a large group with delicious and authentic dishes!

Great place to eat. Reasonable prices. I never give a 5 star. Even as great as it is....there is always room to approve.

This has been a go to for me over the past year. I eat at Monte Alban about twice a month. The food is great. Over the past month or two, the service has gotten more and more lacklustre. I stopped by today for a qick, quiet meal. It was neither. While my tea was empty and salsa gone and the extra napkin never brought, three servers were loudly dissing customers, especially people who call in orders. Then i heard all about parental issues of one young lady and how she hates peppers. Ultra loud laughing and a customer in the other room had to come ask for drink refill. Took 5 minutes for the waiter to return with a refill of my unsweet tea which was now sweet. This all wouldn't have been bad if not for the volume of their rude banter and the unmistakable indifference the serving staff had for the customers. Yep. Time to find somewhere else.

Great little spot to grab a tasty bite. Super friendly staff and all masked up to protect the customers.

Very good Mexican food and I like that they are open a little later than many other restaurants in Hiawassee since after 8pm we don't have many options. Service is good as well.

Excellent good for a restaurant in a relatively small town. Great service as well. Definitely a good Tex/Mex restaurant with some very authentic Mexican dishes on their menu. Wonderful guacamole. I'd definitely eat here again when I'm in Hiawassee.

Food was good considering the circumstances of the virus putting a hold on everything. I would rather eat inside instead of doing carry out.

Great Mexican food, fast service, nice servers, wifi. Room for large groups or cozy booths. You never leave hungry, get a doggy bag 😋.

Good food good service quick and cheap

Had the fajitas. They were okay. Usually the meat is sizzling on the hot skillet. These were just on a hot skillet and kind of dry and lackluster. Did not taste bad, just was not great. Service was good. Overall experience was good for a Mexican restaurant. The best parts of the meal for me was the guacamole, chips, and cheese dip. You will need to ask for the cheese dip. In fact, it was the best cheese dip I have had. In fact, I would go back just for the cheese dip.

If you need a change from traditional Southern cooking in Hiawassee, go South of the border to the Monte Alban Mexican Restaurant. You can't go wrong with the Kitchen's Specialties or Miguel's Specials. Nice staff and service. Skip the drinks.

Always an Authentic Mexican Dish and the Best Sopa con Pollo (homemade chicken soup) with tons of Avocado! Try their Fajita Quesadillas with both chicken and steak. Yum!

The hot sauce is perfection.

Stopped in for dinner- the service and food were awesome. Our server was very attentive. The atmosphere was very family friendly. Would highly recommend and definitely will be coming back.

We are from the Gainesville, FL area, and have a favorite Mexican restaurant there (Linda Vista). Monte Alban has very similar menu items and is comparably priced. Today we had the # 5 lunch special, a burrito and taco with rice (chicken for the wife, ground beef for me). For us, it was just "OK" and I have to say we were underwhelmed with the rice; compared to what we are used to, it was very bland and dry. While the food was good and reasonably priced, and the service was good as well, we'll probably not eat here again.

Great waitress. Food doesn't even look Mexican. Very popular place but is not traditional. Find a real Mexican Cookers!😞

One person in our group ordered the cheese enchilada with beans and said it was okay and that it could use more flavor. She also said that the cheese dip could have used more flavor, as well. Another ordered a cheese quesadilla and said it was okay and that they tasted more bread than cheese. Two of us ordered the Speedy Gonzales and said it was very good, and the temperature was nice and hot. The prices were also very reasonable.

Used to go here every week, really liked it but this past week The margaritas we're like bright green sweet juice with no tequila in them and the manager said we would have to pay extra firm or tequila even though they tasted terrible and it didn't seem like there was any tequila in them at all. Won't be going back. Why is the one in Blairsville better?

The salsa was excellent. The chips are the thicker yellow corn type.The service was quick and friendly The food we got was all very good no complications from the 4 of us

This place is a hidden gem, and I’m so happy to have found it as a tourist. I am from Mexico and this place had some of the best Mexican food I’ve had in the US. The menu also has some stuff that appeals to Americans like the ground beef hard tortilla stuff, but they also have authentic food & tacos. The tacos are DELICIOUS, so are the flautas, the guacamole and the chicken soup (that’s all we could try in the 1st visit). Everything was fresh and flavorful. The flan is AUTHENTIC and home-made. We initially ordered one flan and then we ended up having three. The place is CLEAN, they respect SOCIAL DISTANCING, and it is well ventilated. The chairs are artesanal and good quality. The staff and the waiter were very nice and friendly. Our waiter even recommended a beautiful spot to go walk in North Carolina and see the lake. If I’m ever around this area again I’ll definitely be back.

Not the Mexican food I am use to ordered a grilled chicken breast on rice with queso cheese sauce and got a small portion of cooked chicken and little rice with very little queso lets just say it looked like nothing that a previous person posted a pic of and I ordered the same based on the picture.

The food was great and the coffee even better. Service was fast and efficient.
